Dear Will,

Happy five month birthday! Sometimes I find it hard to believe that you’re five whole months old. Next month, we’ll have known you for half of a year. And to me, that just seems like such a long time. The past five months have been a whirlwind of love, smiles, and a little less sleep than Daddy and I would like. But I wouldn’t change one single second of these past five months because they’ve been some of the best months of my life. I cherish every day with you, every second I get to spend giggling with you and marveling over all the cute baby things that you do. You make up such a huge part of my life and I no longer can even remember what my life was like before you came into the picture. You’ve changed our family and you bring your Daddy and I joy daily. When I think back on these past five months, bliss is the only word that can possibly describe it. Because all the bad times, all the difficult moments, and frustrations just seem to slip away when I see your gummy, crooked smile or hear your precious little giggle. Nothing else in the world matters anymore when you’re around. I’ve been drunk with happiness and love since you came into this world and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I got to spend my 24th birthday with you and it was so nice to relax and have a low-key day at home. Daddy bought me a jogging stroller and we took our first run in it last week. I’m so excited to teach you how to lead an active life. When you look back on your life, I want exercise and activity to be something that is like breathing to you – automatic and something you can’t do without. So much of our world has become lazy and I never want you to have to fight that battle. I never want you to loathe activity…I want you to enjoy it and I want it to be something that is vital to you. You seemed to enjoy your first run and I really wish I would’ve snapped a quick picture. You looked so adorable in your A&M onesie (thanks Uncle Matt!), your blue Adidas shorts, and your sunglasses. I hooked a few toys around your harness in case you got bored, but you really didn’t play with them much. You looked all over as we ran through the neighborhood and then fell asleep on the way back. I’m anxious to log lots of miles and hours running with you in tow.

If I had to guess, I’d say you’re about 17 1/2 pounds right now and probably close to 28 inches long. You’re getting so big and growing so fast! But I love this age and stage you’re at. You’ve got so much personality and so much life, Will. You are such a happy baby and you smile at anything and everything. You totally love life and I love watching you learn and experience the joys of it. Your newest thing is to reach your hands out and place them on either side of my face when I’m talking to you. You grin and giggle (and sometimes pinch). If I had to pick one thing that I enjoy the most about you right now, I’d have to say that’s it. I’m not sure why that makes me so happy – maybe because it’s the first time you’ve been able to show your affection for me in an outward manner. I’m not sure…but boy, do I love it!

You’re still wearing your 3-6 month clothes, though some are getting a bit snug. You’re about to outgrow size 2 diapers and you go to sleep in your crib every night. You love it when Daddy gets home from work every day and you give him the biggest grins ever. It’s so fun to see you developing your relationship with him. It makes me think towards the future when you’ll wrestle with him, play catch with him, and learn what a Godly man is like from him. You’re lucky to have such a wonderful Daddy in your life. He loves to make you laugh and will do just about anything to hear that tiny giggle escape your lips. The newest thing you find funny is standing on his face. He leans back on the couch, holds you up over his head and lets you stomp your pudgy feet around on his face. You laugh and laugh and laugh! You also have developed a love for the dogs, especially Riley (because she’ll let you pet her). In the morning when we’re getting ready for the day, you sit in your bouncer and watch Riley and Sammy. You think it’s absolutely hilarious when Riley growls and shakes her toys. Your favorite food is probably still pears, although you are also a huge fan of apples.

Thank you so much for making me a Mommy, Will. It’s the most rewarding, exhausting, wonderful, exciting, exhilarating, and fulfilling job I have ever had. I just can’t seem to get enough of you. I love you so much and I am so, so proud of everything that you’ve accomplished in your five months on this Earth.

Love,
Mommy

Where has the time gone? I’ve said it’s been flying since I had Will and man, is it ever! Only a few days left in August and then we’re into September. Cooler temperatures? I sure hope so!

For anyone interested in booking a session in 2009, I only have a few more open weekends. I will be restructuring my pricing in 2010, so if you’re wanting to book with the current rates, contact me ASAP. I’m still available:

9/5, 9/26, 12/5, and 12/12

If none of those dates work for you and you’d really like a session, email me anyway and we’ll see what we can work out!

I’m crazy busy, up to my eyeballs in editing…but I just couldn’t resist sharing this sweetness with you all. I just love him so much! I love that he’s starting to give open mouth “kisses” (okay, so maybe he doesn’t know they’re kisses, but I do!), that he can tripod sit for about 30 seconds, that he smiles at everyone, that he “pets” Riley, and that he enthusiastically eats pears. How can you not love this face?

Back to my editing now :)

Today I got to meet 12 day old Gracie. In the almost five months that Will’s been alive, I’ve completely forgotten how tiny newborns are! Miss Gracie gave us a run for our money and wanted to enjoy all the action instead of sleeping. A bath, some food, some snuggles with Mommy and Daddy and lots of shhhushing later, she finally conked out for a few minutes! Thank you guys so much for letting me come out and capture your adorable baby girl. She is completely precious!

So I’ve played around with the idea of doing Ten on Tuesday like so many other photographers…but do I really have ten things I can talk about each Tuesday? And then I was going to do Thursday Thoughts yesterday. But Thursday came and went without it getting done. So today I’m doing Five on Friday. Maybe eventually I’ll graduate to Ten on Tuesday ;)

1. Today is Greg’s 26th birthday. Tomorrow is my 24th birthday. I love our birthdays being a day apart! We get to have a whole big weekend of celebration. I’m especially looking forward to this years birthday celebration because it’s our first as a family of three. Greg still doesn’t have a present from me, but to be fair, that’s not my fault. He wants UT tickets. And he’s incredibly picky about where we sit. And we have a budget. All of those things have made me unsuccessful…anyone have UT tickets for sale for under $150 in semi-decent seats? I’m eyeing a jogging stroller so I can take the little man on some runs with me…Greg hasn’t been shopping yet. Guess I know what we’re doing on my birthday! ;)

2. I need to learn how to knit. I crocheted two hats for a newborn session I have this Saturday, but I’m not incredibly thrilled with how either of them turned out. So I either need to learn how to knit or I need to break down and buy some hats off of Etsy. Etsy is soooo tempting right now.

3. Where the heck did August go? It came and went and it’s almost September right now. And it’s STILL in the triple digits outside. I have no hope that it will ever cool off this winter. Ever. I think it’s going to be sweltering on Christmas and I’m going to be crying. I’m so, so ready for some nice cool fall weather right now.

4. Will has all of a sudden forgotten how to roll from belly to back. He’s a pro at rolling from back to belly though, and has this incredible urge to roll over the very second I put him down on his back. He flops over to his tummy and will play for awhile, but pretty soon he starts grunting and flailing and looking at me like, “Hello, Mom. Can you help a baby out?” I’m trying to re-teach him, but just like my 5th graders who never learned what Metamorphosis was, no matter how many times the four fifth grade teachers taught it, he’s refusing to remember. I’m hoping he’ll remember soon, but for now, I get to be dubbed the official baby-turner-overer.

5. (Wow, it was actually pretty easy to get to five! I may be cut out for Ten on Tuesday after all) This Sunday is “Vision Sunday” at our church and I’m SO excited to hear all about it. It’s been a long, long road for the church and it’s been a long journey back to my home church for our family. But I’m so glad we’re there. And I’m so excited for the changes that are being made and the new adventures that we’ll get to be a part of. The website will launch soon and then I’ll get to share with you all the pictures I took for it. It’s going to be awesome!

6. I know, I know. I’m posting a sixth one. But I just have to. Will is doing amazing on solids with his sleeping. He’s eating one meal a day (in the evening before bed) and so far we’ve introduced him to bananas, avocado, pears, and oatmeal. He LOVES pears. Loves them. He dive bombs the spoon with his mouth and shoves it in enthusiastically with both hands. I think we have an eater on our hands ;) He had pear/banana/oatmeal tonight and he was a huge fan of it! Next up is sweet potatoes. I’m making all his baby food and it’s been so much fun for me to create this stuff for him. I’m tasting everything he’s eating and it’s pretty darn good! The best part of it all is that he’s sleeping SO much better at night. All three of us feel like different people!

And because a post isn’t worth anything without a picture, the little man and his Daddy last Friday.

Will and Mr. Bear had another photo shoot today. I can’t believe how much he’s grown in the 20 weeks since we brought him home from the hospital! These were all taken with my new Canon 5D! I just had to try it out today :)

I just love that first series. As soon as I sat the bear down, Will immediately hooked arms with him and acted like they were the best of friends. I love this age so, so much. He is so much fun and he laughs all the time. He’s even started to get a little ticklish! The best thing about this age? He’s sleeping! Through the night! Last night from 9pm – 5:30am. It’s a far cry from the 2 hour stretches he was doing before.

No, not my baby. Someone else’s baby. I’m sure his Mama blinked her eyes and her baby Will was this grown-up, handsome young man. Oh, how fast time goes! We had a great time today getting his senior pictures done just in time for him to run off to college. I hope someday my Will is as neat of a person as this Will is…he’s going to do big things! Thanks for putting up with me and my camera this morning, Will! Enjoy your sneak peek!
