Archive for December, 2009

2009 has been such an awesome year…I’m a little sad to leave it behind. I started teaching 5th grade, we sold a car, we bought a new car, my favorite person was born, I started my business, I quit teaching to stay at home with my little man, we bought a house. So many big things have happened to us in 2009 and I’m so thankful for each and every second of it. There’s nothing I’d change looking back on it – not one single thing. It was such an awesome year for us. I went through all of my personal pictures (aka photos of Will) and picked out my top ten favorites for 2009. It was hard! I can’t believe how much the little man has changed this year – from this tiny, fragile little newborn to this 19 pound 10 ounce bundle of energy capable of moving where he wants to go and feeding himself. It really does go by fast.

So here they are, in no particular order!

The Best of 2009

10. 8 months old. I love this one because you can tell what a complete and total ham he is just looking at it. That mischievous look in his eyes and the impish little grin. He knew very good and well that he was not to be taking his hat off…but what’s he doing? Taking his hat off. Such a stinker!

9. 7 months old. I think this is one of the last times where I had an easy time taking a picture of the little man. He pretty much still stayed where I put him. Now? Now he’s crawling all over the place. I love his bare feet, his sweet smile and just the overall simplicity of this one.

8. 6 months old. How can you look at this picture and not smile? I don’t think it’s possible! The squishy cheeks and the huge grin. Melts my heart!

7. 5 months old. Another total favorite. This picture gets me every.single.time. All I have to do is look at it and I just start smiling. It’s totally Will – curious and inquisitive. Those big blue eyes and the pursed lips. And the cheeks! I love me some chubby baby cheeks!

6. 5 months old. This one comes from perhaps my favorite series of images ever. Since Will was born I’d had this idea of stripping him down to a diaper and doing shots of him on our bed. I finally did when he was five months old and I love each and every one of them. This one in particular stands out to me though…I love the wrinkles in his tummy and his innocent little expression. This is the image I think of when I think of my little boy – sweet, innocent baby bliss.

5. 4 months old. I remember taking this picture and thinking that he looked so grown up sitting up in the rocking chair all by himself. Looking back at it  now, he looks so tiny! I love how his arm is propped up on the side of the rocking chair and the little hint of a smile on his face.

4. 3 months old. I took this while I was going through a really difficult transition time…we were moving Will out of our room and into his own big boy room. Looking back, it really shouldn’t have been such a big deal. But it was to me. I’d spent a year being next to him 24 hours a day – 9 months in my belly and then 3 right next to me in the pack ‘n play or in bed. Moving him (all the way) down the hall to his crib felt like he was moving to China and I’d never see him again. It took weeks (literally) for us to make the transition and once it was finished I was fine. But during it, it was rough! I remember sitting in his room this night, not quite ready to say goodnight to him and just loving the way he looked swaddled in his white and blue blanket with his paci in his mouth. I cranked my ISO up as high as it’d go and lowered my shutter speed as much as I dared and took this standing over him in his crib. The image isn’t technically perfect, but it holds a special place in my heart.

3. 3 months old. I love this one because of his eyes. We used to say he had “Elizabeth Taylor” eyes because they were such an intense, vivid blue that they almost appeared violet. I think it was something to do with the light coming in through the windows in our living room because they really only looked like this at certain times. But I love ‘em. I didn’t touch his eyes – there’s no crazy Photoshop tricks or anything…they’re really this blue!

2. 1 month old. Oh, if you could only see behind the scenes of this little “photoshoot” I put together on Will’s one month birthday! I had my blow-drier going right next to him as loud as it’d go and a space heater pointed on him. I was sweating like a pig! But I love this one…one month old and I was still able to get some of those curly, adorable baby shots. So innocent, so pure, so precious.

1. 30 seconds old. Greg took this one just seconds after they pulled him out of my tummy. I don’t think it needs any words to explain why it’s a favorite…it’s my baby, brand new and fresh into the world. I really don’t think it gets any better than this. :)

Well, there you have it…my favorite personal images of 2009. Yes, they’re all of Will…but can you blame me? He is the most adorable person residing in our house right now :) I’m working on my client favorites of 2009 and will blog that before the New Year. Enjoy the last few days of 2009. I’m soaking them up and loving every minute of them!

Merry Christmas!

December 27, 2009

We had a fantastic Christmas here in the Johnson household. It was low-key and spent being surrounded by our loving family. What more could you ask for? Will loves his presents. The two biggest hits are the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Musical Table that Santa brought him and the Fisher Price Stride to Ride Lion that my parents got him. I’m not going to write up a full re-cap of our day, but here are a few pictures to share. Enjoy!

It snowed on Christmas Eve! …what, you mean you can’t see the mass amounts of snow? Let me help you out ;)

I’m still in shock that Will has experienced Texas “snow” twice in his 9 months on Earth. That must be some kind of record! It was really neat to have snow on Christmas Eve, even if it didn’t ever accumulate on the ground.

Our tree on Christmas Eve and then on Christmas morning, complete with wrapped presents and Will’s Santa gift!

Will on his crib on Christmas morning. Don’t be fooled – this isn’t where he actually woke up ;) But I’ve always wanted  a picture of him in his crib upon waking on Christmas morning, so we faked it!

Seriously, could he BE any cuter? Oh, that little grin. Too stinkin’ cute.

Merry Christmas, all! Hope yours was as wonderful and filled with love as ours was :)

I can’t get enough of this little guy. There’s such a sweet innocence in a sleeping baby…they haven’t been touched by the world yet, they are content to be cradled in their loving parent’s arms and just sleep. Sweet, innocent sleep. This guy is no different – so special, so tiny, so precious. Congratulations again on your Christmas miracle, Brandon and Laura. Cherish this special time! :)

Remember this gorgeous mama? Her little Landon came a little bit early – he didn’t want to miss out on his first Christmas! I got to meet him today at 17 days old and he may have been the easiest newborn I’ve ever photographed. He was sleepy, loved to pose, and was just all around cuteness! I can’t get enough of his little old man look…the balding and the wrinkly forehead are just too much.

Congratulations, Laura and Brandon! Enjoy your teaser – I promise to put up a few more tomorrow :)

Look at him…he’s getting so big, he looks so grown grown up. It must be the tooth – he’s starting to look more little boy and less baby *sad Mommy face* But my goodness, he’s handsome :)

Randomness

December 16, 2009

Will’s finally rounding the corner and I think he’s starting to get better…it’s been rough around here, though! He’s got an ear infection (on Amoxicilin to clear it up) and has been running a fever for nearly two weeks straight. We went back to the pediatrician again yesterday and she really couldn’t find anything visibly wrong with him – ears look good, chest sounds good…he’s just running an unexplained fever. She said that if it didn’t break by Wednesday we’d need to bring him back in for testing to figure out what’s going on. :( Poor baby! I’ve been praying that it wouldn’t come to that – I don’t want to subject him to chest x-rays, bloodwork, urine cultures, etc. if I don’t have to. Thankfully, the fever broke tonight and I’m hoping he’s on the mend!

Surprisingly, though, the fever hasn’t done a thing to slow him down – he’s acting like his normal, happy-go-lucky self! We took a nap together this afternoon (because someone kept me up in the middle of the night a little too long!) and it was so nice to snuggle with him. I can’t say it enough – I am SO thankful that my husband is the loving, understanding man he is and knew that I needed to stay home with my baby. It’s looking like I’m going to have to start watching a couple kids again come January, and while I’d rather not, it’s so much better than the alternative for us. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last three months of just Will and me time…he’s such a joy to be around :)

This morning he wolfed down a waffle, half of a pear, and a YoBaby Vanilla Yogurt. The kid can eat! I promise more pictures of him are coming soon…I just don’t feel right sticking the camera in his face when I know he’s not feeling well. I’ve got 8 month pictures to take that are looong overdue. Better late than never, right? Y’all aren’t going to believe how BIG he is! 20 lbs, 7 ounces at the doctor yesterday.

How is Christmas already next week? I haven’t done a dang thing either. Will is the only person who has all of his presents taken care of. Looks like I’ll be doing some last minute shopping next week! For some reason it doesn’t really feel like Christmas right now. Maybe it’s the lack of present-wrapping and Christmas preparations that have been going on around here…I’m not sure! But I’m going to have to spend some time with Christmas carols on this next week!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful week and are much further along in your Christmas preparations than I am!

This Mommy-to-be is absolutely glowing…she’s beautiful inside and out and I am so excited I got to capture her pregnancy for her! Their little girl is due in just  a few short weeks and I know the parents-to-be have a lot to do to prepare for her arrival, but are also so ready to meet her. Heck, I am too! :) It was absolutely gorgeous weather out this evening, just another one of the long list of reasons why I love Texas. And I love love love their pictures. Yummy light, gorgeous couple – what more can you ask for?

Sarah and Michael, I hope you enjoy your sneak peek! Good luck getting everything ready before your little girl makes her grand entrance. See you in a few weeks!

Did you know it was cold and foggy in Austin this morning? Very cold and very foggy! (or Froggy, as the cute 5 year old I photographed this morning would say!) This awesome family suffered through the cold and the fog and the wet and boy am I glad they did…we got some awesome shots! I had a hard time narrowing it down for a sneak peek.

P family, thank you for putting up with the weather this morning! Y’all were troopers :) Loved meeting you and your adorable girls. Enjoy your sneak peek!
